Data Drought: The Elusive 2023 Census
May 4, 2024
In 2023, finally, one or three years later, the census that was supposed to be held every ten years took place. Supposedly, everyone was eagerly awaiting it because everyone is increasingly talking about how important data is and how great the data shortage is in Curaçao. In recent months, many figures have been mentioned. Supposedly, 50% of the population is low educated. 70% are said to be living below the poverty line. 65% are reported to have debts. 65% are said to be experiencing work-related problems. 50% are reported to have dental issues. We know that we have shrunk to about 148,000 inhabitants. However, we do not know whether the census will confirm these figures. However, no one asks further when the census will be published, and the authorities also do not provide any information. So, what am I to think of all those people who keep saying that they are looking for data?
