I'm Not Talking to You
I'm Not Talking to You

Two trends have caught my attention. One is international, and the other is local.
More and more countries are taking steps to protect young people from social media and excessive screen time. In education, screens are increasingly being replaced by pens, pencils, and paper. Studies indicate that young people's IQ scores have declined and that mental health problems have increased. The harmful effects of social media are also receiving growing recognition. Courts have now also ruled against social media platforms.
Locally, there is no movement in this direction whatsoever.
Something else that caught my attention is that, just a few days ago, a minister delivered an extensive keynote address on the importance of human rights. Yet today, the media report that the same minister refuses to engage in dialogue with Amnesty International.
It is clear that these two actions are inconsistent with each other.
None of this inspires confidence or brings peace of mind.
