Happy Weekend

Happy Weekend

18 October 2025

Felis wikènt, biba biba djasabra!” That’s what we used to shout. Saturday was the ultimate celebration day. Of course, we partied whenever we could — but Saturday was serious business. There was shopping to do, haircuts, and preparations to make. It was a ritual, a way to celebrate surviving another week.

That tradition has faded. Around 2020, with COVID, that lifestyle practically disappeared. Yet the association remains — Saturday still carries that echo of joy and relief.

But not this week. There’s little to celebrate. What began with optimism on Monday ended in disappointment. The victory on the football field turned into a draw, and the battle in the political arena got dirty. The Friday session of Parliament, which was supposed to bring clarity, was abruptly canceled by an inexperienced young chair. Now the island sits in confusion — tired, uncertain, and facing a literal storm on the horizon.

Hopefully, it will bring nothing more than heavy rain. But it’s wait and see. One thing is becoming painfully clear: our capacity to govern has eroded to an unprecedented level.

Worst of all, we now have leaders — like the chair of Parliament — who have no idea how much, or how little, they truly know. And that ignorance doesn’t just harm them. It harms the country.
