Happy Birthday, Health Is the New Wealth

31 December 2025

By now, Facebook and LinkedIn have reminded everyone that today is my birthday. Thank you for the many congratulations I have already received. For me, my birthday is, of course, more important than celebrating the end of the year. So far, I have marked the day quietly, together with my wife and children.

Omayra Leeflang wrote: Happy and healthy New Year. And that’s exactly right: health is the new wealth.

Marius Bremmer congratulated me and pointed me to an article supposedly written by me in AD. I am not amused because I do not write opinion letters. Perhaps I have a biased view, but I tend to associate opinion pieces with people seeking attention. That is not a need I have; you, my loyal readers, are more than enough for me.

Alongside an evaluation of the year 2025, this is also a moment of personal reflection. I am grateful for my health, for the company around me, and for the chance to contribute in this way. At least, that is the illusion I have. I am grateful because none of this is self-evident, nor was it made possible for me through other channels. I am not part of the family & friends circuit.

But let’s keep it light.

I wish everyone a peaceful end to the year and a good and healthy 2026.
