I was reminded of this today during a conversation with a friend. People often say that Curaçao is shaped like a heart. Some even claim that the island’s name refers to that shape. Others say that Curaçao is the heart of the Caribbean: a place where people, cultures, and trade routes come together before moving on.

What is undeniable is that people easily fall in love with the island. That is not only because of its sunshine, sea, and natural beauty, but above all because of its people. Wherever you meet a Curaçaoan in the world, the love for the island remains. The entire Curaçaoan diaspora carries Curaçao in its heart.

That feeling is beautifully captured by Jeon in Mama 'Wa:

Nada pa para nos.

Everything we do comes from the heart. Perhaps Curaçao is more heart than head. And that is precisely our strength.

It is also why so many people support the Blue Wave—not out of self-interest, but out of love for Curaçao. And if our hearts are truly filled with love for our island, then that same love should inspire us to take better care of one another and of Curaçao itself.

Let us begin with something simple: keeping our island clean. Let us nurture a green heart for Curaçao and embrace the Green Wave. Because those who truly carry Curaçao in their hearts show it by caring for the island every single day.
